Nobody ever found recovery as a result of an intellectual awakening

My first spiritual awakening happened on the way to work one day.  I had no drivers license, like many others starting out in recovery, and my parents had to drive me to work.  In the morning, my father picked me up and was talking about the death of a child.  My comment to him was that it must have been Gods plan.  My father heavily disputed this and said he did not believe that God would do stuff like that.  I tried to explain to him that God made everything happen and it is all in His plan.  My father denied to the hilt!

One the way home from work, my mother picked me up.  I told her about the insanity of my fathers beliefs, even laughed and said he was crazy.  My mother was quiet for a long time and finally responded that she felt the same way.  She said that she also believes that God does not intend for children and babies to die and for bad to happen to people.  He can and does work something out of it if we turn our will and our life over to Him.  I was baffled!  How could God not control everything?  To me, everything happened because of Him.  My mother continued and said that all the bad stuff that happens in the world is only due to other peoples insanities, perversions, and addicts.  She said it was only because of free will that these things happened.  My mind was running so fast I almost could not comprehend the thought.  She gave an example of Christopher Reeves, Superman, and his accident, being hit by a drunk driver.  He thought his life was over!  He turned his will and live over to the care of God and was a huge support for people who bound to wheelchairs.  He was an encouragement to everyone he met.   If Superman can do it, she stated, they know they can do it to.  All that happened because of God.  This is where I learned that God did not create all the bad things that happened to me as a child.  It was other people perversions, addictions, mental instabilities, if you will that caused these.  Once I turn my life and my will over to the care of God, I was able to help many men and women who shared the same or similar experiences to mine.  WOW!  An awakening!!!

How Will I know When I have had a Spiritual Awakening?

Pedro was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an important meeting and couldn't find a parking place.

Looking up toward heaven, he said "Lord, take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of my life and give up tequila."  Miraculously, a parking place appeared.  Pedro looked up again and said "Never mind. I found one."
