I can find no
serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly
the way it is supposed to be at this moment.
~Perpetual quietness of heart (Humility) It is to have no trouble. It is never to be fretted or vexed, irritable or sore; to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me; and when I am blamed or despised, it is to have a blessed home within myself where I can go in and shut the door and kneel to my Father in secret and be at peace, as in a deep sea of calmness, when all around and about is seeming trouble. --Dr. Bob and the Good Old-timers

Family Groups Just for today
I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at
once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I
had to keep it up for a lifetime. Just for today
I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that
"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." Just for today
I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own
desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes, and fit myself to it. Just for today
I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I
will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought
and concentration. Just for today
I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not
get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two
things I don't want to do just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my
feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it. Just for today
I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my
voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit. I won't find fault with
anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody but myself. Just for today
I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will
save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision. Just for today
I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour,
sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life. Just for today
I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful
and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me. This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen. It's an explanation other people will understand. A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists." "Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving a God who would allow all of these things." The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist." "How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside." "Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me." "Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world." "Signs of Inner Peace" An increasing tendency to allow things to unfold, rather than resisting and manipulating. Mother Teresa Speaks Out
